Can a body shop waive or discount my deductible?

Quick answer

Be careful with any shop advertising “we pay your deductible.” Your deductible is a contract between you and your insurer; a shop can only make it vanish by inflating the claim or cutting corners on your repair — both of which hurt you. Legitimate shops help differently: honest estimates, payment plans, and pursuing the at-fault carrier so no deductible applies.

Why “deductible waived” is a red flag

The money has to come from somewhere. Shops that routinely absorb deductibles either bill the insurer for work not done (insurance fraud that can implicate the vehicle owner) or quietly skip operations — corrosion protection, sensor calibrations, blend panels — that you’ll pay for later.

Minnesota insurers also audit claims from shops known for deductible gimmicks, which slows your claim and invites disputes.

Legitimate ways to reduce what you pay

If the other driver was at fault, their liability coverage pays and no deductible applies to you at all — we help you route the claim that way when the facts support it.

When it’s your own comprehensive or collision claim, we can set up a payment plan on the deductible, and our estimate is written honestly so you never pay for inflated work. If money is tight, say so — we’d rather work with you than lose you to a gimmick.

One more Minnesota note: glass

Minnesota Statute § 65B.134 requires insurers to offer full safety-glass coverage with no deductible as a policy option. If you carry it, windshield and glass claims cost you nothing out of pocket — worth checking your declarations page before you need it.
